Neighbourgoods Market & Vintage Shopping in Melville

The Neighbourgoods Market is held every Saturday in Braamfontein, a suburb in inner city Joburg, close to Witwatersrand University. Having been to Market on Main and the Rosebank rooftop market, it was time to finally go to the Neighbourgoods Market for food and drinks! While smaller than Market on Main, it is bustling with people and almost impossible to get seats to sit and eat. We had a nice afternoon at the market eating and enjoying the atmosphere, before heading out to Melville to check out some second-hand stores.

The market was a 20-30 minutes Uber ride away from Roodeport, and the first point of action upon arrival was of course to find food. There were a few vegetarian/vegan options around, but I opted for some Bunny Chow at Durban Deli. Bunny Chow is a South African dish that I had yet to try and consists of a piece of thick, fluffy bread with the inside cut out and replaced with curry. We sat on the rooftop and enjoyed our food and some drinks with a view of Johannesburg.

After looking around the Neigbourgoods Market, we were recommended to go to Melville to check out some vintage stores. Melville was a really nice and trendy area. with lots of trees and the names of streets being "third avenue" or "8th street" making it sound super fancy. We visited two secondhand/vintage stores, the second one being 'Bounty Hunters' on 4th Avenue. Upon entering the store there is a distinct cat smell, and it is soon realised that the store not only contains an array of clothes, shoes, books and goods, but also many, many, many cats.

Most of the lil' kitty cats were pretty friendly and just wanted a pat. There were also a few kittens in a cage which were sooo cute. Half of my time was spent following cats around and trying get pics of them. However I also managed to buy a book to take with me while I travel over summer, and my friends managed to get some good deals on some clothing.

After an afternoon drink in a nearby cafe, it had already begun raining and we decided to head on home before the impending storm.
